Saucony says it makes a great companion shoe with its Endorphin Speed 2 and we’d be inclined to agree.
It’s snappy, responsive and offers just enough bounce to make it an enjoyable shoe to run in too. The upper is light, comfortable and has just the right amount of space.
#Endorphin speed 2 pro
Overall, the Pro 2 is a strong performance shoe that comes in less than its competitors, but doesn’t shortchange you in terms of the experience. There’s plenty of exposed foam, but there’s definitely a little more there than some other performance shoes, so it should get you a few more kilometres in comparison. We don’t have huge complaints about the outsole, which (like a lot of performance shoes) has serious question marks over how many runs it can handle. You absolutely wouldn’t want to take these off-road from a durability point of view as they’re firmly made for flat and predictable running terrain. We used it on the road in both dry and wet conditions, and on the track, and found traction was pleasingly strong. Saucony hasn’t changed things here on the outsole either, offering the same XT-900 outsole with reinforced high-abrasion zones, which are essentially in place to offer better durability in the areas that will do the most pounding. Runners love this shoe while training for race days and shaving time off.
#Endorphin speed 2 full
There’s still a full length curved carbon plate with Saucony’s PEBA-packing PWRRUN PB midsole combined with Saucony’s Speedroll geometry aiming to offer that snappy, responsive feel. The Endorphin Speed 2 is a natural winner, and now its back and better than ever. You’re getting the same 8mm stack height as the first Pro, which sits at 35.5mm at the heel and 27.5mm at the forefoot. It’s not quite as light as something like the Asics Metaspeed Sky, but that mesh upper and light midsole clearly helps keep that weight down and lets you know this is a shoe for speed. It’s an outsole built for flat, dry roads or tracks, though when then rain came on one run we’d have appreciated a little more in the grip department. In terms of weight, things haven’t changed from the original Pro. Those zones are more prominent at the forefoot shoe where it stretches even up to the front of the toe box with more of the sole exposed at the back that could quickly get eaten up on harsher off-road terrain. Mesh upper for breathability and good ventilation. Great flexibility and fluidity in the footprint. Midsole with PWRRUN PB impact technology for reactive cushioning. Good propulsion thanks to SpeedRoll technology. Underneath, you’ve got the same outsole make up as the first Speed with reinforced high abrasion zones that are designed to offer strong traction and durability. The Endorphin Speed 2 is built for those who want the ultimate in cushioning and propulsion for their running sessions. The heel counter, collar and tongue have a textured, flexible feel to add to what is overall a comfortable, breathable upper. Saucony also says it’s used anti-slip laces here to create that strong fit, though we can’t say we hugely noticed those laces made a huge difference on that front. One of the benefits of that mesh upper is that it feels quite spacious up front in the toe box, which is welcomed in what does feel like quite a narrow fitting shoe and that’s something to be mindful of.
